Frequently Asked Questions

+ What organizations do you support?

100% of our profits currently go to The World Wildlife Fund. For nearly 60 years, WWF has worked to protect the diversity of life on Earth. Unlike many organizations, its mission covers Wild & Rare’s objective to help preserve animals and plants—wildlife, forests, oceans, and rivers. The WWF was among the earliest of organizations to devise innovative public and private sector partnerships in countries throughout the world to align commercial and public initiatives toward a common goal. Their community of activists ranges from world leaders and local communities to major corporations and start-ups. A significant 84% of WWF's spending is directed to worldwide conservation activities.

As our community grows we will introduce organizations with more specifically targeted preservation efforts into the mix of our recipients. If you have suggestions or work for a nonprofit committed to environmentalism, conservation, or other wildlife preservation efforts, and are interested in partnering with us, please get in touch.

+ How are the tote bags made? How should I care for them?

The tote bag designs are screen printed with non-toxic ink on 100% recycled cotton bags by Enviro-Tote, Inc. Enviro-Tote is a family-owned, woman-owned company based in New Hampshire and has been committed to manfucaturing environmentally friendly and sustainably produced tote bags since 1990.

Each tote bag is individually cut, hand-stitched, and screen-printed. The recycled cotton for our totes are made from a 65% blend of cotton yarn produced from the excess fabric of newly made clothing, and 35% Bottle Bag material (made from 100% recycled PET bottles). This unique manufacturing process saves land, energy, and water, and there is zero fabric wasted.

We don't recommend washing, as cotton canvas may lose its shape and shrink. If the tote must be cleaned, it should be hand-washed inside out with cold water and line-dried.

+ How are the cuffs made?

The designs are photo-image transferred to brass cuffs and finished with a non-toxic glaze. Blue Line Metals , founded 20 years ago in Council Bluffs, Iowa, by a former Navy veteran and his wife, is the sole supplier for Wild & Rare cuffs. The alloy of brass that they use is called cartridge or yellow brass and is a recylcable material.
